I have seen them before and always wondered how long they last under daily use. I would consider them if they last. Beats all that rattling i'm sure lol.
Gene, i dont remember you trying to explain anything about a kit for the granada UCA, however....im going to do mine with the ones for maverick. my only concern was do i need to replace the shaft? i dont know how to tell if this needs to be done. the car was towed home for a storage unit where it sat for 4 yrs. i would like to save a buck or two if this is not needed. just need to know how to tell. i'll have a machine shop press them in.
With a good quality bushing like the moogs under daily use im sure they could last 15/20/30+ years ford/gm/chrysler and other automakers used and still use this type of bushing in control arms etc.The granada was the last car to use this suspension. Ford finally started getting everything sorted out towards the end of the run IMO.if im not mistaken 76-77 mavericks and comets also recived the rubberf bushings also. The problem with our factory bushings is they can work loose over time and wear the threaded part of the a arm out so the threads are no longer usuable.once this happens you have two choices replace the arm or go with the rubber style if there not to bad worn.they also tend to transmit more road vibrations thorugh the chassis and require constant greasing to keep noise at bay as they wear andf dry out. That being said the factory style bushings are dirt cheap but you need to replace the shaft also to do the job right as they are both wear items. one needs to inspect there control arms for wear/cracks etc and be confortable that the can do the job right before they attempt it it is very easy to get the shaft off center and this will cause a mirriad of issues. In my case I wanted the advantages of the rubber bushing to me it was worth the extra cost.
It was in PM's .. I never spoke about the Granada ones.. I have seen a third way. Putting a GOOD couple of tack welds once the shaft is in correctly. I have always thought of the grease as what actually absorbs the noise because if and when it goes dry it is metal to metal.
thank you everyone for your input on this topic. i will use moog parts and im thinking it best to replace the shaft as well, i dont have the know how to do this job so, i will take them to a machine shop. THANKS AGAIN! RICK
