Yep. Had it for over 4 years - about three of those years were restoration. It's come a long way. -Corbin Before:
My first car was a maverick My first car was a 1974 Pee green 2-door maverick with a I6. Only paid $500 for it in 1989. Being a stupid 16 year old I traded it for a 1976 buick Regal. I just had to have a V8. I only saw my $ get spent on gas to keep that big car driving down the road.
nope......... my first car wasn't the Grabber..............the Grabber came in about 82nd. (yup, you read right.........82nd) I always did like the Grabbers and I knew I would eventually come across one. My first car was a (gasp) '73 Charger for $200........I entered many a burnout contest with that car. It was fun........sparks would come out from under the dash every once in a while.......and when you turned the headlights on, the stereo went off! I had to wire that puppy direct, 'cause when we cruised at night, I had no tunes! Screw that! I bought my '72 Grabber off of some "tweaker" for $180 in late '97. It's been a slow moving project ever since.
My first car was my 73 Maverick. I got it ten years ago when I was 15. I bought it for $50 sight unseen and paid $50 to have it delivered. It was from sombody my dad knew. I spent the first couple years getting it driveable. Which as you can imagine, it takes alot of work to get a $50 car driveable. I got it with no engine, tranny, interior was hlf missing and what was there was trashed. I replaced every body part that could be unbolted except for the passenger door. I bought two other Mavericks as parts cars. the second one I bought was in better shape than the one I got for $50 but it wasn't my first car so I swapped the motor and tranny into the other mav and took all the parts off and scrapped the body. I have had about 20 different cars since then but still have the Maverick. It is hard to picture what this $50 car looked like when it was delivered.
Almost. My first car was a '63 C-word Nova. Had it for 6 months then traded it in for the Mav. That was over 31 years ago. Hey Thomas, I too had a '72 Pinto. Panel wagon, 289, toploader 4-speed, 8" w/3.25 gears, side pipes, Cragars, and a big snorkel hood scoop. It was during the '70's gas crunch and guys with 4-cylinder Daytonas and Mustangs would try to run me.
I only wish my first car was a maverick. My mom bought her first car in 1971 which was a '72 pee green 2dr with the 250. We had that for years and it was parked in our yard until we needed to make room for an addition on our house. Still ran but our family was too big for it. We moved up to the Fairmont wagon (not much different). But my parents where trying to hold onto to it and when I was 14 and 3 attempts to part with it. My mom kept turning people away, it was gone. I wound up with a 1982 Chevy Cavilier which was in worse shape then the maverick 2 years later. So here I am now 14 years after my parents sold it I found its twin. My mom swears that I reserected her car in a different color. She tells me if my dad was still alive he would be proud of me.
first car My first car was a 62 Chevy Impala which i bought for $350 when I was 15 and when i blew the 283 up I put a 327 in it . When I went to work I bought a 69 T-bird from a guy that only had 70K miles . It was sweet. Best back seat a 18 yr old could ever imagine 429 thunderjet so it got about 10 miles to the gallon. I still miss that car and would love to find another but it was a hardtop and they are rare so I probably wont ever find another . I used to eat trans-ams up with that 429. Kinda dating ourselves here ya know. Oh well Im old might as well face it. Later Tim "my comet gt"
I dunno Dennis, I'd love to but if I can do it it'll be a last minute decision. I'm not currently a member of MCCI right now either, which I should take care of. Right now looks like I'll have a real job this summer so that throws another fork into it.
Yes and no, the first car given to me was a 94 Saturn SL2, BUT the first car I ever purchased was my 1972 2door MAVERICK!!
First car My first car was actually a 71 Plymouth, but I was too young to drive it. I fixed up and ditched that heep in order to buy the first car I ever got to drive. It was a grabber green 72 Mav with a 302 2V and a C4. I bought it from a kid in 1980 who was leaving for the air force. I only paid $850 for it, but the kid's dad was a painter, so the car looked awsome. It wasn't fast, but everyone at school sure thought it was due to a few well executed brake-torques. Eventually I sold it to a friend who totaled it a few weeks later. I've had a couple Mavericks since then, but now I finally got one that's almost a twin of the first. The only difference is this one actually is fast
