actually thats a good ratio. in the bay area youd be lucky to drive 50k without an accident of any type(usually someone rearending you) so his having gone that long without does speak well of his skills. takes a lot to avoid the maniacs on the road.
Sucks for sure. Get your fingers looked at. I agree with Jean and Dale,, that car is certainly fixable and I have fixed whole lots worse. Dan
Jamie, I am so very sorry to hear about the wreck, hopefully you can fix it whether it be sooner or later, take care of yourself my friend, if I lived closer to you I would surely help you out in anyway I could.
It sucks to be in an accident. I got hit earlier this year by someone that did not see the stop and bashed in my door. The most important thing is that both of you came out of it with no major injuries and the maverick can always be fixed or replaced.
Thanks guys. I've been asleep all day and just woke up. My fingers seem to be ok. I guess they just got jammed really bad or some. I can move them again and the swelling has gone back down, they are just kind of sore. I'll go get them checked out tomarrow. The car will not be considered totaled because we had liability only on it. So all I have to do is transfer the insurance and plates over to the red car and the black one will not have a salvage title. The insurance company won't give me anything for it, they don't want it, and they don't care what I do with it. I'm actually pretty happy about that. I figgured I would have to fight for them to not tow it off and crush it. So it will be fixed. I may have to save up for a few years to do it, but I will have it fixed. They are now trying to say that I made the left turn on a red light which is absolutely not true. My light was green. That guy was speeding and probably not paying attention. Me and my mom just drove back up there and there is no way he didn't see me, and he had to be flying to get over that hill so fast. I also found out that the Navigator was a company car. Wonder what exactly this guy does for a living? sierragrabber, I'm pecking with one finger on my left hand to type. edit: Ohh, and the cop said he was very impressed with how well the Maverick held up to that SUV. We're talking about a 8,000+ pound tank slamming into the side of me going around 60 mph. It stopped that Navigator dead in his tracks. He said if we had been in some little newer car, one of us would probably be either dead or in the hospital. I'm really glad to hear that some people in the know think it's fixable. That makes me feel a ton better. It will get used for parts for the time being (5 lug rearend and brakes mainly), but I will hold onto the body it self and have it fixed in a few years.
My thoughts..........why fix it when big bumpered cars can be bought CHEAP everyday on ebay. Here is one from California that just SOLD for $815. Add another $700 to $1000 for shipping and you couldn't fix your car for that cheap..something to always consider: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...&item=4592745363&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT
Jamie, Craig may have a real good point. On the other hand, with that '76 shell you have, a right front fender, and a few other parts, you put everything over on the '76 and have "the same car." Kinda sorta, maybe.
The only advantage of saving that car would be that it is a Grabber ... otherwise, without a doubt, you could definitely buy a nice big bumper car for the cost of fixing it ...
Jamie-Glad you and your girl are okay. Sorry about your Grabber. Chin up! It will be better tomorrow, or the next day! Seth
I'll fix it when I have the time and money to mess with it. I know it dosen't make since to, but to me it's worth fixing. If anything, it gives me a good excuse to put a Mustang II front end on. Never have liked them shock towers much anyways. For now it will sit. Dan, everything should go on as planned with your old balancer. My grandpa is comeing down in the morning with the car dolley to haul it to NC. I am still going to get the red car on Thursday as planned. This is just a bad week for Mavericks. Yellow72Mav gets his stolen and destroyed and now this. You guys better keep your Mavs locked up this week...
Jamie, I'm real sorry to hear about the accident. Mainly because I have seen the excitement in all of your posts since day one and all because of your Maverick. I too am glad that everyone is okay. I also agree with Jean and Dan that the car is savable if that is what you want. I also agree with Craig...heck...I agree with everybody!!! In all seriousness though, I'm glad that you don't have a ton of money in it yet in case you wind up not fixing it back. I'm all for fixing it back up for your sake simply because you love it so much but I realize that it may take quite some time due to your age and the big thing...money. As long as you have a good place to park it, then that's what I'd do for now. With all your dealings I'm sure you can come up with the parts in no time to fix the car back the way you want it. Matter of fact, I have a pretty good 74 that I am now considering parting out. It got flooded by Katrina but was a pretty good car before that. I'll probably want to keep the disc brakes for my Sprint but I really don't need the car. Just remember one thing, the car is just a car, a simple possession. I have seen so many people here lose everything they have owned their entire lives all due to Katrina and it's hard to believe it but when they talk to me about their experiences, they do it with a smile on their face. It's not that it doesn't hurt from losing everything. It's the fact that they and their families are still alive and well. That's the way you have to look at this...it could have been so much worse. Keep the great attitude you have always had on here and you'll do well. Your car, whichever one it may be, will be as nice as anybody's on this board one day. I'm sure of that, so just stay confident and keep on being Jamie. Good luck in court and try to follow everyone's great advice here.
Jamie the main thing is the both of you are ok...Sorry bout your injuries...The car is fixable but frame work ain't cheap...Good luck...Jim
