Thanks for the advise even tho this did get a little off topic. here is my expirence i have had both sigle and duel plane i like my single much more then my duel the power just sort of drop off near the top end. this is not my daily driver and gas is no object for me. P.s. i order the 268h cam& lifters, the springs and retainers were only and extra $65(some kinda deal or something) so i picked up both i also order some stronger push rods. Oh yeah not a big fan of eldelbrock i like there intakes but they make junk carbs. once i got my holley the eldlebrock went straight into the garbage damn near cut a 1/3 off my 1/4 (thats with out tunning the holley yeat as well)
I'll second the E201421 "Hi Flow 1h" Erson cam. Im running this cam currently. Pu tit in 4 degrees advanced and it helps out the bottom end alot
Check your spring pressure on the new springs. I don't know what the limit of the pressed in studs is, but I always put in screw in studs while I'm putting in new springs. One less thing for me to worry about. It's better than tossing a lifter and losing oil pressure at 5,000 rpm. Only needed to do that once.
If we are on the subject of Erson, the TQ 20 was a heck of a cam for me with a mild single plane, stock-ish heads, and C4. It gave way more torque than a light car like the Maverick could get to the ground, even when I had 3.00 gears in it. I remember one time at the local AutoZone, some of the counter guys came out and were commenting that the car surely had no torque with a stock C4, 3.00s, and a single plane... I demonstrated otherwise in the parking lot. No power braking, just throttle. They re-thought the whole 'no single plane on the street' rule. Our cars are just too light to worry with dual planes. I am like you... My single plane had more torque than I could use, and the RPM choked after 4k or so. Just went flat. Dave Btw: TQ20 = 478 lift/214 duration Right at the limit for stock studs and rockers. I used all out stock heads, and probably would recommend the same unless you are determined. Nice steady lope at idle, however very subdued. It's not a huge cam.
