I am going to do a "rear main hoop" type bar under the dash that is going to tie into the front torque box. Which will transition into something similar to what you have for the side bars that go to the actual rear main hoop. It will also tie into the front engine bay "cage" for the fenders to be hung off. I kinda know what I want, but its all in my head of how it "should" work. Hoping it works :)

I just moved into a new house, and been super busy with my 4mo daughter to where I don't have a ton of time to work on the maverick. I am hoping to cut out the firewall tomorrow and cut out the interior side top of the front torque box's to clean up and take some measurements tomorrow while the wife is at work :D

Was removing useless wires from my fuseblock and came up with how I wanted my engine bay wires hidden... Going to grommet and go onto the back side of the inner fender apron, coming through in a couple spots where needed... Going electric eveything sure is ugly and I'm tired of looking at it all. Need to relocate my msd box too...
Also took apart my disc brakes and getting all that ready for blasting& powder coat, going to wait till I get a bunch of stuff together to bring it in to get it all done at once, having an issue trying to get those long rod things off though that bolt through the front crossmember and down to the LCA's

Got the old glue and paint stripped off my roof and managed to wire-wheel some more in the back seat. Pictures are available in my Project Thread.

I removed the firewall, and gave it a 1" overhang to allow me to attach the new sheet of metal with Cleco's and have the new metal overhang to create a overlay.

I plan on cutting out a 5"x5" square hole in the interior side of the front torque box to clean up and begin the mock up the beginning of the cage

That's some heavy modification! Nice job so far! (y)

Your car looks like the opposite of my car at the moment... I have a firewall, but no lower cowl.:biglaugh:

    Thanks,

I cut more out, we'll the start of the transmission tunnel to the seam. Also pulled up all the sound deadening and wire brushed the seams to remove the factory seam sealer. Going to clean it up and begin to mock the transmission to find where the new metal is going to lay. I wanted a clean flat panel with some beadwork ddone for the firewall. Then I'll block it and paint it car color.

It also will give me the ability to begin the cage the front end of the car and incorporate the cage designs I would like. Trying to go for clean, hidden cage but still effective. Hopefully iI can get it to code for nhra at the same time.

I am also going to be cutting the wheel wells out and mini tubing shortly. Ton of stuff to be done, would like to see the car at least ready for paint by spring and driving by mid to end summer.

I recently picked up a 9'' big bearings rear-end to get narrowed but need to find some wheels that will tuck in the Wells. Bob has a set he had for his pickup that where considerably wide that I'd like to use to figure out the dimensions of the housing.

So much to do, not enough time.

I dont have a build thread -- I should probably start one.

I am kind of embarrassed of a few things that I originally did in the beginning of the project. Lets say a "lack of experience". This is my first solo job, did my 72 El Camino with my grandfather when I was younger. We did a light custom, stock restore. This build is balls to the wall custom, so i am learning and having fun. Anyways, here is some better quality photos from my camera.

The X with the box is the general area I am going to cut. I will do something in photoshop to try and show what I am seeing in my head as to what I would like to do.

    Ill post pic soon.

Here is a photo with line vectors to show kinda what I want to do for the cage for the front end and why I am cutting the firewall out. Hope it makes sense. Its half ass, I feel like poop, my daughter got me sick, and its kickin my ass right now :/

I understand about the family, but this is a build I will follow with a lot of interest.

I removed all the pictures in my upload limit to allow me to post more photos in my build thread.

I made two templates out of cardboard to fill the firewall. The first one I did with rough cuts, quick and sloppy. Then went back over all the edges with tape to "fill" the gaps to build a edge to copy. Got everything flush with where the newest template needed to be. Then laid it on the ground in the garage and retraced the template out. Got it all mocked up and noticed I made a few mistakes on where I cut slits into the board to allow the board to go around the frame rails. So, I took some cut up pieces of cardboard to fill the gaps with some tape.

Tomorrow I will go to a buddies shop who does glass, and get a few more large pieces of cardboard to finalize the mock up to transfer it over to steel.

    Before
    [IMG]

use tape to fill the gaps in the cardboard to create a perfect template of the firewall.

Used tape all around the edges to mark the exact measurements of the cardboard since I did a rough cut out and had wavy gaps. Tape is your best friend :)

    Template marked on the cardboard

    Perfect fit! Nice and snug.

Now I need to pickup some new cardboard and do one final template to scribe onto a piece of metal and have laser cut to do a final mock up before tacking into place -- But before I do that, I will need to mock up a c4 transmission to figure out where I need to shave the beginning of the transmission tunnel down on the firewall.

Also, Notice the cardboard "ring" -- Yeah, i got that out of the box my new dishes came in. I also have a thick round tall piece that is identical to the diameter to the cowl vent, and that "ring" is perfect match for the bottom of it. Was thinking about using it as a template to make a few cowl vent's for myself and possibly others if they needed it.
