    I have a 71&74 maverick
actually i am getting ready to pull the engine out of the little gray mav and put in the new 200 six i bought last week and i need to know how to do the valve adjustments on it, such as which timing marks to be on for which valves and torque specs would be a great help

    1. Crank the engine until the TDC mark on the crankshaft damper is aligned with timing pointer on the cylinder front cover.
    2. Scribe a mark on the damper at this point.
    3. Scribe two more marks on the damper, each equally spaced from the first mark.
    4. With the engine on TDC of the compression stroke (mark A aligned with the pointer), back off the rocker arm adjusting nut until there is end-play in the pushrod. Tighten the adjusting nut until all clearance is removed, then tighten the adjusting nut one additional turn. To determine when all clearance is removed from the rocker arm, turn the pushrod with the fingers. When the pushrod can no longer be turned, all clearance has been removed.
    5. Repeat this procedure for each valve, turning the crankshaft 1/3 turn to the next mark each time and following the engine firing order of 1-5-3-6-2-4.

I didn't have a wreck...Bambi did. I had the right of way. I pay highway taxes and can drive on what ever side of the road I want to and I can clean out ditches without a permit too!! :D http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=81234

    Its ALIVE!!

Fired the 347 today. Just for a few minutes, but it sounds MEAN! Idle isn't as smooth as I wanted. May have to put a higher stall converter in it. Still need to take it back to the builder for a distributor swap. The Pertronix distributor that was ordered with the engine had a high RPM miss. Brought the engine home with a borrowed Mallory distributor. When the replacement Pertronix is in, the car will go back to Charlotte for the swap and final tune. I'm hoping he can smooth the idle some with the timing curve. Any hope for that?

Would have fired it yesterday but there was a coolant leak at the thermostat housing due to a misfit gasket. Replaced that gasket this morning, fired it briefly, then took the wife to see "Moneyball". Very good movie.

Tomorrow I'll top off the fluids and check for leaks. If no leaks, I may have to take a little test drive BEFORE the hood, front bumper and grill go on. :drive:

Drug the 'other' 72 out of the weeds, onto flat ground so the 4 lug rear can be swapped for the 5 lug, so I can get it rolling. 3/4 ton Ford work van didn't know it had a car with 4 flats hooked to it :D

I did nothing on the car today. I worked on the interior of the garage instead because I just can't stand the clutter anymore
