since this pic i got rid of power steering and added an braided steel fuel line. hehe. the comet has an empty bay right now but will most likely be a 302 since im getting one for free and already have some power parts. BTW where do people find the viper engines sitting around? and radmav, the top end looks sweet but i think your missing something on the bottom end
Right now I have a 302 in the Sprint. Nothing in the 75 at the moment. Over the years and all the Mavericks I have had, they have been equipped with either 302 based engines, or 351c.
rollin in my 4.1.... Two fitty......power by Ford! but one day maybe Santa will bring me 52 more inches.............
Since I posted my info, my engine is now becoming a 393c stroker. I needed new rods and pistons anyway plus my crank needed work so I went in this direction. The block was line bored, decked and bored .030 over. A new stroker crank and forged Keith Black dished pistons (to keep compression down to 9 to 1) were ordered and these are designed to use 6 inch Chevy rods. I originally was going to a 408 with 6.250 rods but my deck height won't support that configuation. This sould all be done by summer - I hope
If you still got it apart... Have you considered swapping out your open heads for closed? Quench chambers are proven to support significantly more compression on the same octane fuel. The closed chambers were designed by Ford, for performance, the open chambers were essentially designed by the EPA! (for smogging)
The block is still at the speed shop. The pistons and rods were ordered and they're just waiting for them to arrive to finish up the bores. If I use my open chamber heads with the dish pistons, I get right around 9:1. With flat tops, I would have been closer to 11:1. I didn't check to see what the close chamber heads would be with the dish pistons. We were looking to get the engine to be better suited to the "gas that is available today". In stock form, I was only at 8.5:1. There is a set of the close chamber heads for sale not too far from me. Thanks for the heads up - I'll check with the speed shop and see what the numbers look like.
the factory 250 6cyl. is still going strong in mine, but when all the parts are gathered a 302 based stroker will give the 6 a nice rest some place out of the engine bay......
