Ran 28 x 10.5-15 M/T slicks on mine, with the 8" 4.62 rear for a while. Switched to a 9" (exact same width as the 8"...used the 8" axles and all). Factory leaf springs clamped in the front, traction slapper bars, mild 302, 6 cyl springs, suspension limiters on front shocks (removed about 1 1/4" of travel), 70/30 front shocks, rear wheels were 15x8....4.5" BS...IIRC...Ran stock driveshaft a while until the 9" was swapped, went to a 3" shaft instead. 8 pt cage with subframe connectors. Most of the car was stock other than suspension and weight removal mods. Went some low 1.4X 60' times....7.teens in the 1/8 at 94. Swapped in a 393w no other mods, ran some 1.38-1.39 60's and 6.60's at 109. Same suspension setup other than adjusting the front shocks.

Backhalfed it with a 4 link and narrowed 9"...14x32's and Mustang 2 front IFS. 1.27 best 60' and 5.83/120 1/8 mile. Drives very easy.

I'm getting ready to order the rear wheels, they have 15x7 w/4bs or 15x8 w/4.5bs. remember these must tuck inside with the sheetmetal covering about 1/3 to half the sidewall. What do you guys reccomend?

Your running 8's, correct. With 4.5 bs? How much room do you have on either side? I want to order my wheels today so i want to make sure they will fit. Thanks (y)

Correct. My wheel lips are rolled from a previous owner but I have a good 3/4" clearance on each side. :)

I borrowed a friends 15x8 wheel w/ an L60-15 and the tire rubbed on the rear leaf spring.

    Cal Trac leaf Springs

Can you run cal trac leaf springs on a street car? (with their traction bars) I just recently bought a 72 Maverick (sleeper) with a 460. It's got a Mustang II suspension in the front. In the back it's got the stock 3 spring leafs and an 8". I have a 9" I want to put in. The car will see little track use. We have no tracks here on Long Island. Right now the car smokes the tires like you wouldn't believe. I would like it to get out of it's own way, when I step on the gas. It's not an everyday driver. Mostly a cruise night car, but I want to able to stomp on the gas every once an a while.

    I'm running Cal-Tracs with stock leafs, 347, 4 speed, 9", 4:30 gears...works fantastic!

I spoke with John Calvert about spring rates when I put them on my S-10. He pretty much said the Caltracs work better with a lighter spring rate. I ended up taking 2 leafs out of my truck's 5-leaf springs and it pulls 1.60 60ft times on Nitto 275DR's. I have them in my Mav with new Laurel Mountain Mustang springs (minus the bottom short leaf), but it's a few weeks away from completion.

    springs

I ended up getting a set of Calvert Racing leaf springs and traction bars. They can make them right away and ship out the next day. He said they ride stiffer than stock, but people do use they on street/strip cars.
I spoke to Joe at KC springs and he said he could get me a set of 4 leaf springs in about 5 weeks. He was helpful enough plus he offered the $40 discount from ordering springs through this site. But I just didn't want to wait. I'd rather just put everything in at once when I put in the 9 inch.
