five years ago we were driving up in Kearny. I saw the front of a yellow 73 grabber. I fell in love with it. We couldnt afford it. about a month or so later i saw a green four door around my block. Bought it for 500 and am still having a great time with it. Then we went up to pa and saw russ's two door and i said i hafta have a 2 door. Bought a 75, no good. Then found a nice 70 and got it for 100 bucks! Since, i have put five lug rear in discs rebuilt front end 302 c4 2.5 duals out the back buckets painted several things here and there and blamo. 17 and cruising around in a mav with a v8. pretty soon it goes up to Jean and Dale for paint and bodywork!! I cant wait til it comes home afterwards!!! -Todd
Well, I was at my step-dad's shop one day, when I spotted this car down the lane a little bit. (My step-dad's job is kind of secluded, but there is like two or three body shops, and like four junkyards around. Anyways, at the time, I was a Mustang fan, and I had decided that that was what I wanted for my first car. So, I spotted this car's front end poking out from between two cars, and I said to my step-dad: "Hey, check it out! It's a Mustang!" Of course he turned around and told me that it was a Maverick Grabber. Me having never seen/heard of a Maverick, we went over and checked it out. Anyways, it was in great shape and I liked it. Apparently it was for sale-$500- with a supposed broken timing chain. My step-dad and I talked about it, and he bought it a couple of days later. (I was only 14! and I am 15 now.) Turned out that the engine was shot, and so we had to buy another. Anyways, I never really liked Mavericks until I found a lot of nice ones on here and other places. Now I'm in love, and I can't wait to get started restoring it. (all my money right now is going into the engine.)
I do not have a special story. You know some times you just look at something and say "Yes, that looks good" Well the mav was one of those cars for me. I think it has the most awesome body lines and so much potential that I just say "YES"!!! Whenever I look at mine.
i started out as a bowtie bandit (AKA chevy lover) i was talkin to my aunt cause she had a 79 El Camino ss she was goin to sell me but the price was to high so i got to talkin to her and she said she had this mustang type car made by ford that she would give me but since i liked chevy (i know fireing squad is waiting) i wasn't to interested but since the price was right (freeeeeeeeeee) i took it . it was 3 months later when my aunt dropped off a 69.5 mav that looked like it had sat in a tree line for the past 6 years but in reality it sat in a chichen coupe for the past 6 years anyb way i wasn't to enthoused i was thinkin about fixen it up and sellin it to repaiont my cherrokee but then a friend we'l call Dr Alfred Peper told me about this sight and after beein on here for a few weeks i forgot all about Chevy's and became a ford nut now i'm hooked wouldn't trade the mav for the world Seth
if ya think thats pointless i'm only 16 and own a total of 10 vehicle now either thats pointless or i'm just a midwestern redneck
I got into the Maverick stuff when I had '70 Roadrunner! I was in Jax Beach, and went by a Ford dealer for a buddy with a sick Fairlane. I saw a '72 Sprint sitting on the lot, and asked the salesman if I could take it for a drive while my friend waited on his parts. That is the last I ever saw of my Roadrunner! I loved my Sprint, and hung onto it for about 4yrs, sold it to a kid (had to get a "family car", read station wagon. I have regretted selling that car and the Roadrunner since. I have had 6 or so Mavs or Comets since. Just can't be without at least one! Earl
my first car was a 71 maverick.....at the age of 15 I bought it and a 73 parts car for $100 that was in 85....a year later I bought a 72 comet gt from the same family.....since then I have owned several.......my current project is the most involved though......and at the moment there are 8 of them here.....I'm still looking for a comet to add to the colection
My parents bought a comet brand new in '73 and a year later my older sister bought a white grabber with green accents, 302, 3-speed and then I saw Mad Max. I argued with my friends over what kind of car it was and simply told them "it's a maverick made in australia". I didn't know they called 'em falcons until years later. But I wanted to have a Maverick and modify it to look somewhat like Max's car, but now I like the way they look stock with nice wheels and good performance.
When I was 19 and about a month away from graduation, My parents told me the Navy was transfering my Dad to RI. We was in Va Beach at the time. I knew I needed some decent and dependable wheels if I wanted to stay so I played the guilt card and talked my Dad into cosigning for a new car. Went down to the local Ford dealer and on the front line was a whole row of Sprints. Bought mine and almost 32 years later, still driving it.
Some of my earliest memories from childhood involved my dads Maverick. He would set me on the fender while he worked on it. He had 2 of them back then. Both of which were gone by the time I was 5. Since then, he had always wanted another one so we bought him one a couple years ago as a Fathers Day gift. It was a mess, I didnt see the point. But he made something out of it anyway. I thought it was neat how he brought that car back to life and made it look really good in the process. I then decided that I wanted to restore a car. Looking around at car shows, everything was a Chevelle, Camaro, Mustang, Nova, Corvette, or 50-something Chevy. I needed something different. I was never really a fan of the Maverick but it grew on me and after driving his a couple times, it just fealt right. Dad found me a Maverick for sale and suggested I look into it. We did and decided it would be the project car for me. With him living in Florida and me in Texas there were a couple stipulations, The most important was that I had to be able to drive it home. Well soon after I made the commitment to buy the car, he signed on with KBR and was getting ready to ship out to Iraq. He did not have time to work on my car to get it ready for the trip so we came up with an alternate plan. I would buy the project car and he would trade me his. He put so much time and money in this. He practically gave it to me. He is still in Iraq now and I cant wait till he gets back so we can start working on the new project car. Thanks Dad.
ladies and gentlemen boys and girls the doctor is in. I am Dr. Alfred Pepper. my love for the maverick was wen it was set in my lap and i saw potential
Love them Mavs My grandma bought a new Comet in 1974. At the time I thought little of it, but it was cool when she would let me start it for her on cold days. Five years later I was a hard core Mustang nut, mainly because my uncle had a 69 Mach 1. Just before I turned 16 I found a 71 Mustang and actually planned to buy it. However, dad stepped in and informed me the car was junk and way over priced at $900. I was crushed to say the least, but then out of the blue a kid down the street joined the Navy and needed to sell his 72 Maverick quick. His dad was a bodyman/painter, so the car looked awsome, especially with the chrome Cragar mags. The price started out at $1,400 but after a week of hard negociation I eventually got the car for a mere 850 bucks. I had a blast in that car and honestly wish I'd never sold it (to a friend who wrecked it of course). Since then I've had 3 more Mavs, and even convinced my younger brother to ditch his 5.0 Stang in favor of a Maverick. Don't get me wrong, Mustangs are still cool to look at, but a Maverick will always be in my stable.
Ahh reminicing When I was about 8 my mom had a 71 mav 2 door with a 302, I was a skinny little runt and used to sit on the back armrest so I could see out the windows.. I always liked moms car alot and the body style was awsome to me.. it was like a huge HOT WHEEL any way about 8 years later my first car was one my parents let me drive, a 72 newport ( read LEAD SLED), didn't take long and I traded it off on my first car purchase.. a pristine '75 4 door Mav. ( this was in '81) , well I owned that car for about a year and it was my pride a joy. I started off from a light one day .. and got hit by a Pinto with no brakes, moved my front clip over about 8 inches, anyhow, insurance company totalled it. I never owned another one until by chance I spotted my Comet in the paper.. stored for 10 years with only 72k on.. well it took NO time for me to decide to buy it now I have owned this car longer that any car I have ever owned. probably have it until the day I die.
Mine started when my aunt bought a new maverick in 1976 didn't think much of it at the time used to clean and wax in for time to time when she got sick in 91 she was put in in a rest home as her money was going by the way side i ended up getting for paying tax on $200.00 that's what an auctioner thought it was worth pretty lucky buy. Since then it has growen to five 3 76's, 2 71's they just seem to grow on you.
I'm not. I have a Comet. I have that because we couldn't find a '65-'68 fastback Mustang that we could afford back in '83-'84. I'm glad I have it. Seth
