What made you a Maverick person?

Interesting stories by all. I liked the Mavs the minute I saw the first ad that introduced them. Then in 1972 I was out in the street working on my first car (56 Chevy 110 2dr sedan ) My Dad would not let me bring it in the driveway cause it leaked oil so badly. Debbie Page was a chick who was a couple years older than me and really cool, and hot! She used to walk down the street to my house and talk to me while I was either working on my car or motorcycle. So one evening I am out working on my car and this red 72 grabber goes by real slow. It had mags and was jacked up. I could not take my eyes off it! He stopped at Debbies house and went up to the door, knocked and was let inside. I walked down the street and was slobbering over this car. I remember it like yesterday. Then he and Debbie walked out, they were going out on a date. He asked me what I was doing by his car. I just told him that I thought it was really the best styled car I ever saw and that hood had lines that really set it off. He seemed annoyed at me, the greasy kid that his date was smiling at. They got in and I remember thinking, hmmm its a 6 banger. Thought some more and decided if I ever found one like that with a V8 I would have to have it. Two years later I found a red 72 Grabber V8 at a used car lot. That was my first Mav. I did not get the girl though. Debbie's Dad was transferred to New York about a year later. Never kept in touch with her. She was one of the coolest people I ever have known.

When I was little my brother was in collage(he worked in a salvage yard during the summer). He had this Green 74 Mav. with a comet GT scoop, keystone classics, 289 out of a Mustang (all these parts came from the salvage yard). I always loved that car. SO I bought a 77 Mav (To be like him) and proceded to tear it apart and never put it back together. My brother graduatated from collage and moved to Ft.Worth TX. He was there for about 15 years. He lost his job and ended up getting a new job in Sweden(yes over there). He called me on the phone and asked "You want this old Maverick?" I said "Hell Ya" So I flew to TX, helped him pack his house up and drove that car home from TX with about 20 psi of oil pressure. Best trip of my life. Thanks Bro!!!
