A C4 with 4.11s is way fun to drive now and again... However, they are no fun to drive regularly. The C4's first gear is not very low, so it really needs the gear. That is the sad part. That's why I swapped my C4 to a wide ratio toploader. I kept the 4.11s, but it pulled much harder with the low first gear. Anyway, I am a big 4.11 fan, you can tell by my handle. But I wouldn't recommend it them if you intend to drive the car much at all. 3.55 to 3.80 is about all I would be able to stand with todays fuel prices. If you can get around to putting an AOD in there, then I highly recommend 4.11s
In my parts collection, I have a 9 inch with 3.89 gears and T-10 four-speed that is going in my '73. I plan to use a Powertrax for the limited slip aspect.
I plan on driving the car a lot so And in the years to come it will probably get a 5-speed, but thats way in the future
I have a 9" rear. 3.50:1 gears. 31 spline axles, mini spool. I have 245/60-R15s out back. I am ok with the mini spool, but a steeper gear would be better. What the hell, its not my daily driver.
http://www.angelfire.com/fl/procrastination/rear.html since you seem to be having a few questions about gear ratios, i thought this would help you out... if you only drive in the city, or at lower speeds, you can get by riding with lower gears...however, if you live out in the sticks, even a 20 min ride with 3.80 on a 55mph road will get on you. try this one, it gives you a few good ideas how hard you'll be running your car at various rpms... i put in 2500 rpms, good baseline.... 26" tire 3.00 starting gears final drive ratio of 1:1 with no overdrive.
4.11 and a mini spool... bought the gears, spool, deluxe gear kit, 2 qts of synthetic gear lube and i got a free dial indicator back in march for 350 bucks
