Your first mistake is going off NADA prices. Look on performanceautosport.com ...some Saleens are going for as much as they were new in the late 80's which is over $20K. I like my Maverick, but I don't value it as much as I do my Saleen. The NADA value for the Saleen has always been low, but I don't feel that it is a true representitive of what people will actually pay for one. They are regularly going for over $10K. I can't see a Maverick selling for that much. And just because a Maverick was alive in the Muscle Car era doesn't give it muscle car prices.

I see why you dont use NADA now.

Anyhow no one ever said they would get muscle car era prices. No one thought in the 80's that a maverick or comet could ever get 10K, but some have. Heck in the 80's you couldnt give some away. Times are changing and the baby boomers want the cars they grew up with without spending 40K on a rare classic. The prices will go up, gaurenteed.. As for a mustang dime a dozen. Thats why Fords marketing strategy is to offer limited numbered productions for an over produced car

You see why I don't use NADA now? What's that supposed to mean? It's all about what YOU are willing to pay for a vehicle. Try to buy a nice Saleen for what NADA books for and see what you get... something that's been wrecked or mistreated.

Well, we all have our opinions... for your sake I hope your Maverick value goes through the roof! And as far as the Mustang comment goes, yeah, they are a dime a dozen for the mainstream Mustang..

Its, proven when a car becomes a "classic" i think it is when it is 30years old the price appreciats instead of deminishing. I think my car will be come a full classic car this year or next, cause then i dont pay as much for a plate. it may just be in Kansas tho.

can you imagine a mav. witha 429. Not to mention that those original boss 429 blocks are near to impossible to find. i know sombody who has a boss mustang that came witha 429, but when he found it. it had no 429, so he dropped a boss 302 into it. he is still searching for the ever popular 429.

    Hey Don!

I ended up trading a guy for a rolling chassis '89 Mustang LX since I was missing my 1990 so much, lol. We traded rolling chassis only and I kept the 393 and C6 and put them in the Mustang. I got it running and then sold it. it was basically a 4cyl Mustang conversion and had the small brakes but did have the 8.8" rear though. I sold it because I didn't have the money to finish with the proper rear gears and all. I got $5K out of it. It ran pretty good but the trans was starting to slip into 3rd I think because of the torque vs. the stock 2.73 gears in the Mustang, lol. I miss the Maverick and wish I had it back now, but I have to move forward. I still have my '72 Sprint but I don't think you saw it. I ended up getting the '71 to an 11.59 at 117.8mph .. I bought some new slicks for it and put a Barry Grant 830cfm on it after a while. I got a best of 1.63 60ft with the new slicks. All the car needed to really be a great car was a new radiator. It would overheat very quickly. It was always a struggle to keep from boiling the coolant off. I miss it for sure. By the way, what has happend to my '90 GT??

I finished the engine mods on it, 30lb injectors, Adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 70mm throttle body, 73mm mass air, adjustable Idle curcit, Full MSD ignition, 4 core Griffen radiator. The only thing that I did not get to was the rear end gears. Still had the stock 2.73:1 gears in it when I sold it. But OMG the thing would run 120mph in 3rd gear. I took a guy for a ride in it about a month after I finished it and he just had to have it. He ask me how much, I told him $6,000, He wrote me a check, and that was the end if the car for me. I think he ended up selling it to a guy in Texas as a partial trade on a 68 camaro or some sh!t. What a waste, if I had known he was a chevy guy I probably would not have sold it.

But we move on and search for the things we love the best. I now have a 69 1/2 now and am slowly getting it where I want it. I did some research the last coulpe of days and I think that I have found the engine/tranny combo that I am going to use. I have a Mexican 351W that I am going to stroke to either 392 or 427, I have a set of 1970 351C 2V heads that I almost have finnished for a W block, Will build the engine as a full roller, put on the heads for the 351Clevor engine, Have will put on a set of 351C 2V headers Built for a 70-77 Mavrick and a built C-6 trans with a 3500 stall from Neal Chance. A 9" rear end with either 3.70s or 4.10s.
That combo should let me run pump gas, be very streetable, and should run very low 11s to high 10s with all the sheet metal and glass in the car. The only serious mods I will have to do to the body is the shock tower mods and a 12 pt roll cage. (even though the headers will fit without the shock tower mods) I will use a front plate engine mount kit I have in mind so the headers have lots of room down by the engine mounts and I can move the engine up or down to get the best fit before I find exactly where I want to mount it.
Are youstill in the AF? If so you have been in one place a long time. Will let you know how the progress is going on the car as I get it done. I am also going to start a web page to post the progress on the car so all here can see it.
Great to here from you again. My thinking on what Race car you should build is that you should get another Mavrick to build a race car out of and keep the Sprint and Saleen stock as they are both pretty rare cars and they both will be worth quite a bit of money in the near future.
    Talk to ya later
    Don

You're jokeing right? They are going up in price as we speak and will only continue to go up. They may never see the price of a classic Mustang, but the more people get tired of Mustangs the more the price and demand of good alternatives will rise. Compareing them to a Willys coupe is irrelevant IMO. Thats the whole other side of the universe.

If you want to tear up a Maverick, sell the sprint to someone who will do it right and go find a standard big bumpered car. Better yet, find some POS run of the mill fox body to destroy.

Wow, looks like we have a few of Fox Mustang haters on this board. So, you are telling me that when the Maverick was introduced and until it stopped production that the Maverick wasn't a cookie cutter? I don't know why you are bashing the Fox Mustang... maybe one beat you and you're still angry. I bought my Maverick while in high school and my friends '85 GT smoked me every time we raced. That's what made me fall in love with the Fox Mustangs. They are only cookie cutters because they were/are popular. Don't be mad. People own Fox Mustangs for a good reason, they are cheap and quick with plenty of available mods. Don't hate. Appreciate. I appreciate Mavericks. I'm just trying to argue my point, as you are. Let's just all get along, lol
