Just for kicks, does anyone have any online ads bookmarked with "high dollar" Mavericks for sale?

No one said they hate mustangs.

I think his point is they made more Fox bodied cars in one year then all the Mav's put together. Well that might be slightly over stated, but pretty close. Do you know how many fox bodied cars have been made? Im coming up with 3.0 million.

Last week hemmings had a maverick for 14,000$ but its no longer there.

I'd say this is pretty close...
It doesn't matter though, it's all about what you are looking for in a car. I just cannot see a Maverick/Comet going for over $10K without being a 5K mile unrestored showroom car. That would definitely be an exception, but any car from that era that is all original unrestored would bring in at least $10K. What condition was the Hemmings car in? Was it a restored Comet/Maverick??

I would say Dan Hines car would bring over $10,000. I would add Ray Parrish's car to that list. I could add many others as well. They are not common above that price range...but quite a few exist.

Fox body Stangs are awesome. Great suspension and drivetrain. Saleens are even better.

Maverick's do get more attention, but it's about 50% good and 50% dogging the Maverick.

The Mustang will always be more popular for many reasons, but most Maverick owners don't like popular.

what makes a saleen a saleen. Is it just a name that boosts the price. or is it like SVT were they put different drive trane. and power adders.

Let's keep in mind that if it wasn't for the fox body Mustangs we likely would not have all the neat go fast small block Ford parts we enjoy today.

Since this is a Maverick community we want to save the Sprint just as a Saleen community wants the Saleen saved. I say they are your cars, enjoy them as you see fit. (y)

My dad's Comet sold for $17,500 in 2002. I personally have never heard anything negative about my Mavericks. And people like it even more now with the torque thrust II wheels.

As far as hateing foxes, your way off. We have had and still have several. My dad had an '84 GT that we totally rebuilt 3 times over the years. Car had well over 600,000 miles on the 2nd engine and 3rd transmission when we sold it. By then the entire interior except the dash and console was from a '91 GT and the nose, tail lights and ground affects were from an '88 GT. It had 89 GT suspension, 93 GT engine and a Cobra transmission. Was converted to 5 lug. I'd kill to have it back now, but the idiot we sold it to ran it into the ground over about 5 years and then flipped it end over end 3 times when a tire blew out while racing it on I-285. We had that car up over 150 mph several times. I only have a few crappy pics, first 2 of when my dad first bought it and last 2 of what it looked like 16 years nad 500,000 miles later just before he sold it. I didn't mean fox body's in general were junk, I meant find one that is a junked run of the mill 4 or 6 cylinder and use it for a drag car.

How much money does it take though to get it to be worth that much? Is it modded or restored stock? Got any pics of examples?

Thanks, I totally agree with the fact that most Maverick owners like Mavericks because they are different. I like my Maverick too because they're different.

Some reading for you. They are quite a bit far from stock although they used factory drivetrain in the early days to keep the factory Ford powertrain warranty and to stay away from emissions testing. They were a totally independent company that were licensed to sell the Mustangs with their own name. They were initially body, interior and suspension/wheel modifications, but they started to do their own powertrain setups (modified stock and aftermarket parts) in/around '89. My car is the last of the sub 500 unit/year production. My car is 1 of 22 of it's kind and 1 of 278 total Saleens built in 1987.

I guess we'll never know what it would've been like without the fox... and thanks for the advice!

What did the Comet look like? Any pics? How much money was put into it for it to sell for that much. Just like Mustangs though, it's not about what a book value is on it, it's all about what someone is willing to pay for it. The Mustang looks nice.

So what you are saying is that Saleen are basically what Carrol Shelby did with the early mustangs.

    Pics are here: http://www.5hp.hill.cc/hotrod/page 10/

Or you can read the whole story of the car from start to finish by clicking the '71 Comet link in my signature. He had about $11,000 in the car start to finish the last time we rebuilt it. The engine and trans are the only things we didn't put together ourselves. My dad even narrowed the rearend in our garage and built the aluminum gas tank his self. The car won basically every show we took it to. We have boxes and boxes of trophys. It's changed hands a couple of times since we sold it and now belongs to a guy in Pensacola, FL.

I sure would like to know how you guys build cars so cheap. I have over $24k in mine and I did everything except upholstery, and that was less than $3k.

Definitely a nice Comet (Jamie) and Maverick (Ray's)...

Does anyone know of factory stock (or restored) Mavericks/Comets brining in close to $10K? I can see heavily modded Mavericks (or any older car) bringing in that kind of dough with that much time and money.
