That is the belt to the water pump.

Water pumps will eventually fail and can have a squealing sound also (along with the belt). A broken water pump will also cause the belt to wear out faster (because the water pump driveshaft is in a bind).

You can take the belt off the water pump and turn it by hand to check for any looseness or binding of the shaft to eliminate it as a problem.

I would do that before putting the new belt on. It might save you the cost of a new belt.

Does the engine run hot? Are you having to add water every now and then? Do you see water dripping from the water pump area?

No water dripping I think but at the same time I´m not really sure, gonna check it out today, got my airfilter in the mail today (the american postal service must be faster than the swedish) so I really hope it fits, I will remove the belt today and see if it´s the shaft to the waterpump as you said, (me and my centimeters!!!), well it would really save me alot of trouble if someone bought the stuff and mailed it to me, I know it´s gonna be expensive, you don´t wanna know what I paied just to get my airfilter here...

You guys are truly the greatest....

Fitted the airfilter today, but since the car won´t crank, I can´t do much for the time being, the lights work and the radio, but i guess the starter needs more power, since the battery is out of juice...

Ok, gonna buy myself a batterycharger and a "fanbelt" tomorrow and start it up, go for a spin and see if it still won´t charge the battery, is it possible for the headlights and the radio to be working when the starter won´t crank??? (cause that´s how it was today...)

I really want my baby up and roaring....!!!

That depends. Your headlights may work, but, be very dim. The radio and headights need a much lower amount of power to simply, operate, than the amount of power it takes to crank over an engine. Your battery could just be low enough so as not to operate the starter. Or, you may have a bad starter. If you do manage to get it started, though, I have used this test, in a pich, to determine a bad battery from a bad alternator in order to eliminate these two factors in electrical system gremlins:

While the vehicle is running, disconnect (carefully, so as not to arc off the frame/body/other metal and get shocked) either of the battery terminals (I usually do the positive). The alternator, if adequate, should generate enough current to keep the vehicle running. If not, then your alternator is bad. If so, then your battery is bad.

My grandfather showed me this trick and it has worked on several vehicles. Then again, I'm only a certified mechanic from the Backyard Institute of Automotive Whatevers, so correct me if I'm wrong guys.

I was actually thinking about spending the night in the driving seat, but I got to think about all the neighbours.

Now It´s like it was before, it keeps on dying without any reason, can ride for like 15 minutes and then it just shuts down, It´s the same thing when I start it up, I can´t give it any gas at all, then It just dies instantly, really need my baby to be up and running, and I´m so tired of not knowing what to do...

And one question, the cap/lid that is located on top of the cylinder between the airfilter and the "windshield" (well very far in anyway) with some kind of nozzle, is it supposed to be coming steam or something out of there???

Soon I gonna pay one of you guys a plane ticket to come here and help me out!!!!

    All the best!!!

I went to the Ford dealer where my dad works. They tell me this part is no longer made. They could only find (3) in the entire country....and two of those were at Ford dealers that had closed. I got the last one they could find. Maybe we need to find another similar part with a different part number.

BTW....mine had a hard plastic shield on it that was easily removed. Anybody else seen this?
