On the day of my birth, Disneyland was celebrating an important milestone.

The New York Giants defeated the
Milwaukee Braves (8-6) at County Stadium.

A U.S. pilot and three crew members were shot down over USSR territory (learned in 1992 when classified documents were released by USSR).

The U.S.-made "X-17" rocket, designed to carry nuclear warheads, made it's maiden launch into orbit to test the effects on the nose cone upon re-entry.

The president wrote a letter to
    Val Peterson concerning "Operation Alert".

By a vote of 90-0, the Senate approved a bill to allow widows under the age of 62 with a disabled child to receive Social Security Benefits.

Mr. S.H. Smith wrote to the co-inventor of the computer "ACE Pilot One" asking if he agreed to give the computer a "final resting place" in a Science Museum.

That same year, Alabama outlaws the NAACP. Singer Nat King Cole attacked on stage of theater by members of the white supremicist group "White Citizen Council" while on a concert stopover in Birmingham, Alabama.

Only 30+ years ealier, women could not vote.

It would be another eight years after my birth before a black was granted (by law) to vote in the south.

On my birthdate, the pride of Italy's passenger liner fleet, the Andrea Doria, set sail for Genoa bound for America. More than 3,500 miles away, the Swedish liner Stockholm leaves New your to return home. Seven days later, the two liners collide in the North Atlantic - a mystery unsolved to this day.

On my birthdate, the radio show, "X minus One", played
the episode "The Old Die Rich".

Frank Sinatra, Nelson Rockefeller, Elvis Presley and the Shah of Iran all drove that year's Lincoln Continental.

The phonetic alphabet was one year old. Disneyland turned 1 year old. Martin Luther King's home was bombed. President Eisenhower wrote that letter regarding "Operation Alert 1956" to the Administrator of Civil Defense concerned about what to do in the event the USSR dropped an atomic bomb on the U.S.

[font=MS Sans Serif, arial, helvetica, verdana] On July 17, 1956 my Mom gave birth to a perfect little, adorable baby boy, ME! :D

Fourteen years later, Ford would come out with a new make called a "Maverick" and would go on to sell a gazillion of 'em. Over the years, the Maverick would not be among the most desired cars to own. Thirty years later, the Mavericks (and Comets) are becoming collector cars and well represent a part of Americana.

Mike, mine was just like that new. Same colors and everything. :)

My car was 13 years old when I was born. It was being drivin by a 17 year old at that time. It would be another ...17... years before we "met", when I was also... 17. :) It's always lived within 200 miles of me.

Was born with the last of the baby boomers, 3 years later they would call everyone born something else. I see alot of us baby boomers on here and am glad to see that along with alot of younger people. I remember my brother buying a bran new 1974 Comet GT, 302, 4spd, ps, pb, a/c,.... Loaded. Boy I wish I had that car now.

    1959 was a good year
