Considering #1 on the cap is pointing at #6 cylinder..with 0 degrees of timing on a small block Ford..and cylinder # 2 on a small block Chev.. I don't understand why anyone would want to make things more difficult than they need to be....
You appear to be missing the point...just because the cap has a mark indicating "1" does not make it the end all be all place to plug in the spark plug wire to the #1 cylinder. You can use ANY of the terminals on the distributor to be your #1 wire location...just as long as you index the rest of the wires around the cap accordingly.
Don't worry I do understand that, just seems strange and over complicated... Why not just line it up the way it's marked and was designed to be?
can't be any simplier...drop the dist. in..wherever the rotor is pointing...that's #1 plugwire location...
buy a manual- study it- you will get confused listening to all the different ways to do something , it seems like everytime someone asks a question that does not know how to do something they are bombarded with a 100 different ways to do something and then someone has to quote someone that may or may not be right only to confuse the person even more ,all I have to say when I see that happening is "THANK YOU MR. KNOW IT ALL":deadhorse
