whatever Todd (MaverickRunner) has on his car.....best sounding (semi-modified) car I have ever heard.
The 30 sounds like the 50, but is louder to the outside listener. The 30 is just a hair louder than the 50 on the interior. Personally, the best sounding muffler ever made was the one one made for the turbo-charged Corvair. You may can still find one. They were made by Walker.
I have Delta Flow 40's on my Crown Vic, I like them, loud enough to get me pulled over by a cop with nothing better to do but give me a hard time for tinted windows and loud exhaust, because "anyting you do to make the car louder than stock is illegal!" his words, really rode me about it too. Definately do an X-pipe, but check around for other brands of mufflers, I think some magazine did a dyno comparison on a few different brands of mufflers a year or two ago, and a cheaper one than Flow Master, had better results in performance.
WOW Thanks John ....super 40's and all 3 inch pipes, and a H pipe (yes 3 inch and we dont need to talk about to big of pipe), it sounds GREAT . I think the high compression and the cam help the sound also. Every cop knows where I live , sound will bounce back if you drive down a street with store shops on both sides. Also the tourist with car alarms dont have a chance....will set everyone of them off. One bad note...you dont want to drive at 65mph with 4:62 gears and deep sounding mufflers for longer then one hour...sounds great but makes you nutty! Todd
Exhaust Isolator Hangers. You'll wish you hadn't welded to the floor - unless you want to rattle your teeth out. You can find a place to attach these 'anywhere' just about. JCWhitney or AutoZone (prolly)
Make sure you check the local laws for noise level requirements, here in Delaware thay are Anal about noise levels going thru inspection. I had original 40's on and had to put 50s on to pass the required Db level. The 40's sounded great but I must say that the 50's are better on interior noise level when cruising down the highway.
here you go Muffler Sound Clips: 65 Mojoe's 2 Chamber Flowmasters from outside the car: 65 Mojoe's 2 Chamber Flowmasters from inside the car. = 19Stang66's Deltaflow 2 Chamber 40's outside the car. 19Stang66's Deltaflow 2 chamber 40's inisde the car on the road. Scouttrooper's Magnaflows. Inside: SuperDavids 40 series Flowmasters on the dyno. "I use Fowmaster 50 series. Classic Flowmaster sound without waking up the neighborhood every time you drive your car. " "I recently put on Flowmaster 40's, and have enjoyed them. I don't think they are to loud, but the do resonate insde the car. I will be switching to the 50's after the novelty of the 40's wear off, probably in a year or so." "i got flow 40's on the 66. with manifold the car was freakishly annoying and loud around 3k rpm.....loud as hell. i put long tube headers on it and it has the most perfect sound ever. its got a small block sound but its deep and pretty beastly....id almost perfer it to a big block sound "
i will be running either flowmasters or magnaflows..just depends on what they have at the junkyard....on a good day i can get 2 for $17 PS scott i've hered flows on cars that make it sound like trucks but its mainly on the late model cars on pre-cat cars all of them that i've hered dont sound like a truck sound with a flowmaster.
OK, sounds like I am leaning toward the Super 40... Now how do I find a good person to install them...? What do I look for in a good installation?
Make sure you check dimensions ... I think the 50's are quite a bit larger and don't fit nicely under the rear seat floor pans. The standard 40's fit perfect.
My experience with my 84 F150...ok to weld hangers to the pipes, don't weld hangers to the body. Guy who did my truck welded them to the frame, 6 months later they broke. BOLT to the frame/body, and you shouldn't have that problem... Oh and I like glasspacks better than the Flowmasters, but I'm old school anyway
I love my glasspacks, they sound great, but the setup I have is a mess and it needs to be swapped (wrong bends, cutouts drag on everything, not parallel under the car, etc.), and I don't plan on doing this again. I knew that for performance reasons, I would eventually go with flows, so since I am rebuilding it from scratch, now is the right time...
These are what I have on my Maverick: http://www.flopro.com/VForce.htm They are a modified version of the 40 Series...
