I couldn't disagree more. Rancheros were very popular in their day. Back then, trucks were all business, unlike the luxurious SUV's of today. The Ranchero (and El Camino) offered a car-like ride and comfort, with the ability to haul light loads and pull a trailer. They were phased out of production when the Courier and Ranger came along. They are still offered in Australia in what they call the Falcon line.

As far as your Edsel comment, the Edsel's early demise was a result of poor sales, primarily because of the public's negative reaction to, what you called, "the cool looking front end". Somehow the Edsel name has (incorrectly) become synonymous with poor quality and reliabilty. They were essentially the same as the Fords & Mercurys of that era, with some neat innovative ideas, but their short run had nothing to do with mechanical problems or short-comings.

i actually like the ranchero, i think it looks pretty nice. the headlights bulging out are pretty ugly though. but in general i just like all classic cars no matter how good they are. they're all a collectible of some kind

Yeah, I couldn't say anything nice at the time so I just didn't. Given a few minutes I could have written an organized, gentlemanly rebuttal and done my part to set the record straight, but it was really not worth my time. It wouldn't have changed his misguided opinion and I thought, ya know, who would I really be preaching at? Consider this guy's audience. He may have unintentionally attracted the attention of people who want to read about Mavericks, but he wrote it for people who want to read about the latest stupid Fast and Furious movie. Who cares what they think? It is a little funny to me though, his unintended audience seems to be the only group commenting. He was just blabbering at a blank wall in an empty room until we showed up.

Yeah I asked my car about it tonight. All I got was slammed into the back of my seat with an impatient snarl. Seems to be her opinion of everything lately.

I love Rancherooooo's, My wife has a 68, she has as much fun driving that beast as I do my Comet! With a lot more steel around you, you feel much safer in that car. And you just dont see many of them around in that year. Old ford's rock!

Wow you guys really gave some in your face responses but sometimes it's a bit to much when feelings get in the way of intelligence and as for ranchero's well some are bad ass here is one I own !!!! But thanks to all for sticking up for the Mavericks that I have said was always a over looked ford and a last frontier for restomods and restored cars IMO.

I didn't give him a response on his blog. My comments were limited to this site, but I did read through some of them and unfortunately the vulgar and name calling doesn't make us look any better. He got paid for it and it looks like he has had a bad experience with a Mav in the past and that's what he remembers. We had a Pinto growing up that was the biggest POS ever but I won't lump the whole lot of them into the worst cars ever. That said, I don't get paid for my commentary either and it doesn't affect me or my car one way or the other. He did seem to take the critics pretty well, he probably is accustomed to the abuse having that strong of an opinion.

You would think he learned a lesson... again: "The last time I kicked a hornet’s nest like this was when I called the Pontiac Fiero a crap car. I shoulda learned my lesson!" -Jerry Garrett-

Murphy's law applies: "never argue with a fool, people might not be able to tell the difference."

...not that he's necessarily a fool, but nobody will give themselves any credit with commentary like some of the unprofessional and vulgar responses.

So goes the old adage, "Opinions are like ass holes, everybody has one." I really didn't take offense to the guy's remarks about Mavericks, I liken the article to a child with a stick rushing a Navy SEAL.

Yeah, he shouldn't have done that either! One of my dream cars is a Fiero with a Northstar V8 swap!

I am not really going to dignify his article with a response about how much of an idiot he is. Instead I am going to throw out my opinion(s) on why the Maverick never went anywhere special in the heart of Ford and Old Car lovers.

It's because the Maverick was the "middle" child. If you have ever been around a family that has 3 children take note to which one is the most well behaved and which one fades into the background like they aren't even there. It's the middle kid. The Oldest always get all the attention because everyone over compensates so he/she doesn't feel left out. The youngest is always the "baby" of the family and the middle kid like the Ford Maverick fades into the sunset

The Pinto was the little ugly car that a lot of car guys took a liking to because it was the "baby" of the family. Don't believe me.... Go to Ford Carlisle and check out the fact that there are twice as many Pintos as there are Mavericks even though the Maverick had much more potential.

Then there is the Big Older Brother "The Mustang" that over shadowed the Maverick.

The Maverick just plain out got lost in the middle.

OK those were my babbling thoughts for the day. I am going home now. G'night....hahaha
