I got the STS-1 universal kit from http://www.webelectricproducts.com/. Comes with instructions on how to hook it up. $69 shipped, you can't beat it. It's very easy to hook up. I tried an electronic flasher today, and it didn't do much different. I noticed that the wires going to the flasher were getting warm. 6 bulbs is just too much for that 37 year old wiring to handle. I totally rewired the tail lights today. I ran a new 10 gauge, fused, constant 12v wire back into the trunk. Then bought 3 relays. One relay powers the left turn signal/brake, the other powers the right, and the third powers the tail lights and rear side markers. The original wiring going back there does nothing but turn the relays on and off now, all the working load of the lights comes through the new wire. The tail lights are now much brighter, and the turn signals and brake lights are almost stupid bright. I also replaced the 1157 bulbs with 2057's. I took the electronic flasher apart and slowed it down just a tiny bit. The result is dead on perfect with what I had in my head of how I wanted it to work:
Damn that looks great i now can see everyone in the known Maverick universe getting those lights with that sorta setup.
That really looks great!! That universal kit is exactly what I'm looking for to wire up my T-bird lights! Any chance you could post how you ran your new wiring and relays?? I'm not much on wiring and I wondered if adding 2 more bulbs would be bad on the original wiring. Thanks in advance and again that really does look good!! Scott
Very Nice! I always liked the fact that the Bobcat tail lights incorporate the stock Mav lights. They do seem to be a bit long though. The 67 Impala tail lights are a better length, seem to fit perfectly. But the giant back up lens detracts from it. Overall I dont think it looks any better than the Bobcat tail lights. Now the Caprice tail lights with the triple red lenses. They just look incredible! Got me wondering how they would look with painted bezels on a blacked out panel. And led bulbs (with the choppiness of their instant on and off):
