The C-6 is your best option if you have a factory 302. Yea you could
use newer tranny's but then you have to adopt them fit non electronic
engines and the cost is NOT CHEAP. You'll have to go floor shift and
you can either pund out the tunnel for the beefer C-6 or cut and weild.
Much better to cut and weild to get a more
