My friend had the same thing happen in his galaxie 500 and he ignored it for a long time untill one day it got really loud and the whole wheel and axle came out when he was driving down the street he had to get it towed home and we were looking at it and we only found the remains of a bearing, we got it replaced and it has been fine ever since.
