You can take off the air injection pump (not sure if '73 mav's had this or not) and pinch off the hoses leading into the heads. This probably won't make much more power, but it cleans up the engine compartment a lot.

Next, you should buy a 4barrel intake manifold (either a used FoMoCo steel unit, Or for about $160 an Edelbrock performer RPM manifold or torquer (my personal choice)) and a Carb with about 600cfm rating. Then you should get some long tube headers ($90+) and a 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch dual exaust with some good mufflers. Finally, install a camshaft, but not too big of one, because the stock heads won't support the flow.
This should easily get your Mav 210hp

To spend the least amount of money; Buy a used steel 4bbl intake (I usually sell them for $30). Find a used holley carb and get a rebuild kit. Find the headers in a SUMMIT catalog(about $85) and buy (2) 4 foot lengths of 2 1/2" pipe from them too (about $12 each). They also have many mufflers to choose from. DO NOT BUY MUFFLERS FROM A MUFFLER SHOP, they typically Charge 2 or 3X as much for them. Example: 2 flowmaster mufflers cost $110 out of summit, but at the local master muffler, they charge $130 a piece!!!!! so just buy the stuff and weld the exhaust yourself (or find a friend with a welder, MIG or oxy-ac), or if you just don't dare do it, have the muffler shop weld it. Then for the camshaft, Get a P.A.W. (performance automotive warehouse) and order a S.S.I. cam and lifters for about $90, or order a Lunati cam and lifter kit (about $120, name brand stuff is usually better), you might or might not have to buy new valvesprings depending on the mileage of the engine, and the lift/duration of the camshaft.
