divide your compression by 14.7 to get true CR

remember u are checking a cold engine so it will read a little higher
usually on something with about 200 to 300 cid,u can knock off
about 1/2 point because of air temp .

as far as hesitation check the timing advance and look for air leaks
in your carb and manifold usually this is caused by lean air fuel mix
(but not always) the accelerator pump causes this a lot too..
