Mustang 5.0 and the Crown Vic, Tbird, etc. do not have roller lifters, still running hydraulic lifter cams and the old firing order. The Mustangs have the 5.0 HO, different lifter bores for the roller lifters, the others have the standard EFI 5.0, which is almost identical to ours inside, but like you said, the accessory drives, water pump and such are different.

: The main differences are in the way they're equipped. A "Fairmont" 302 is basically the same as our Mavs (some rocker arm and compression differences), a "late 80's" 5.0 (i.e Mustang, Tbird, Crown Vic, et. al.) has some pretty significant differences (obviuosly fuel injection!) including crank triggered ignition, roller lifters (and an accompanying firing order change), chages in crankshaft balancing, serpentine belts with reverse rotation water pump to name a few...but still quite 'do-able' in a Maverick!
