Interesting question Chris. I doubt that a city would let you "take" anything without a hundred miles of red tape attached. I would guess that if they did impound it, they would probably run it's description through some computer somewhere to see if the vehicle had ever been involved in a crime. In any case, if it's parked at a restaurant, you might be wise to check with the owner of the establishment first. It might belong to his kid or something like that.
: I've got a quick question on you finding the car...you found it?? I've always wondered, when i see a car along side of the road...will the city ever just let you "take it"? I mean, half the times they just have it towed to be crushed. There's a really nice chrysler cordoba at a restaurant an ex of mine works at (we still talk, amazingly...)...the glass is all smashed in and the car has surface rust/ruined paint, but the interior is absolutely perfect and so is the body (not dented). It would be great to fix up, it's stripped of all ID's except VIN...been there for a while.
