289 is made to rev. that's what its good at. 302 has more low end power, unless it is a severe cam. I'm thinking about a 289 for my own car, still undecided... 289 gets better milage usually. as for parts, the only part not directly swappable between the 302 and 289 is the crank. If you put a 289 crank in a 302, it becomes a 289. Viola! vise versa aplies as well. every other part available for a 302 works on a 289, so don't try to sell someone on a 302 because parts aren't available for 289s...
