I pulled it up because I suspected a little rust, luckily there were only a couple spots in the back the were very minor. But, this black stuff was so brittle that a lot of it broke apart. Its real soggy. So, alot of it is shot. I guess I could use some other sound deadener and it would work as well????
: That black tar paper stuff is sound deadener,I would recommend pulling it up though , because it causes the floor to sweat. More than likely your floor has a little rust like most others.The good thing is after you pull it out you can just set it back down and it will be ok.But "DO" check the floor for rust.
