I could do as some do here and tell you to check the archieved boards for rearend, but I won't. You should consider an 8 inch rear. Depending on how you want to drive the car depicts what gear you need. I currently have the lower 2.79 highway gear behind my 289. It runs well, but needs a bit more. The V8 Mav's came with a 3.00. You can find 3.07/8's(not exactly sure which), or if you are lucky, a 3.25. This will make a good daily driver, and highway car. Next is the 3.40, then the 3.55. Some say that there is a 3.50. 3.73, and 4.11. There are taller gears, but I don't know if you want to drag or not.

Here is what I have come up with. I'm gonna put my 3.40 in, which with a 26 inch tall tire, I should be running 2700 rpm at 80 mph. The speedometer will be off, until I can find the drive gear for the speedometer. Good luck....

I'm not saying that everything is exactly correct, so I'm sure someone will dispute it.

: Well I have finished rebuilding my engin (302) and beefed it up while i was at it. I should be getting some where around 300+ hp. I am wondering what i should do as far as rear ends go, I really don't know anything about them. Right now i just have the stock ones from a 200 I6.
