How to remove the heater.

I decided to try and change the heater core while I was replacing the brake master cylinder. I couldn't for the life of me manage to get the heater unit to release from the firewall. I removed the nuts from 5 bolts that came thru the firewall that were in the right spots to hold the heater unit in. It still would not budge. I got the core out but kinda broke the plastic casing doing it. I'm going to need to get the whole thing out to put the new core in when it arrives and still can't figure out how to do it. The book I have says "Remove unit" so it's not much help. :-)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
