Allow me to rant for a while, but isn't it obvious when one compares the size of the counter balance on the flexplate. One is 50 and the other is 26 correct? I'm not sure what is so difficult about standardizing things within the company. For example, I own a 1985 Buick Regal with a Buick 455 transplanted into the engine bay. The only after market pieces needed where the frame stands. The last year the 455 was built was 1976 and ten years later it still transplants with little modification. Is anyone else as frustrated as I am with Fords idiosyncrasies. So why not drill the new 50 OZ flex plates with both patterns and you would still be able to recognize the new vs. the old due to the dual bolt pattern. After all, GM has had both patterns drilled into theirs for years. I'm not a brand loyal person as I enjoy all makes and models but sometimes Fords better ideas are.....well you get the idea. RR, this is in no way directed at you. As a matter of fact, I would have never given this problem a thought until the day I would be installing the engine into the car. I can see it now, I'm attaching the tranny to the block and the converter doesn't bolt up! So I pay for a days rental of the cherry picker for nothing. I truly do appreciate your help with this I'm simply frustrated with the lack of interchangability with Ford. Also, thanks to whoever started this thread, otherwise I would have never known. WM

:they switched the bolt pattern so as to keep the two balanced assemblies from being confused.

::Is the bolt pattern different because of the high stall speed converter, or did Ford switch the bolt pattern for the converters when they went to the "newer" 5.0. In other words, will my old stock converter bolt up to the new 50oz flex plate! thanks
