Switching to a floor shifter, what needs to be done to the column?

I first went from a 3 speed on the column, to a automatic on the floor. I've switched everything over including all linkage. Using a B & M shifter. Any idea what I need to do to the column? I've diconected all of the 3 speed linkage, is there anything else that needs to be done? I heard about columns locking up, when this switch was peformed. What's up with that?! Thanks! Mike
