arghh!!
i cant stand a V8 with a 2V carb. not that there is necessarily anything wrong with it, but i just like the look and feel of a 4V.
1st off, i got an edelbrock performer intake for $25. (not my favorite)
but carb selection is going to be crucial.
i once put a 600 cfm holley on a stock 289. it ran ok, but not really an improvement over the 2V. i am of the opinion that a 600 cfm is over-kill for a stock motor.
i would prefer to put an edelbrock 500 cfm carb on it. it worked well on my last maverick. however, a fellow on the falcon board seems to think that a 500 is over-kill (for a stock motor) and recommends a 390 cfm holley. to me this doesnt really sound like any improvement over the 2V. what is the 2V rated at anyway? (350 cfm?)
i also know that holley makes a 470 cfm carb. it is also possible that i might try to find one of those old motorcraft 4V's. i think many of them are rated at 470 cfm, also.
what do yall think? eventually, i will go thru the motor and create a monster. for now, i just want a few extra ponies, fuel economy, and reliability.
whats the best carb for my application?
