Yeah, I've got a Crown Vic water pump on my car, I did some research and found that the Crown Vic units are the only regular rotation aluminum water pumps Ford ever made with the Maverick outlet location.
I believe the change was in 1990; have a parts guy look up a 1990 Crown Vic with a 302; it should list both cast iron and aluminum water pumps.

important Your power steering and/or A/C brackets won't bolt up to the Crown Vic pump. If you're lightening the car you probably won't have those.
EVEN MORE IMORTANT The Mustang and truck water pumps WONT work with a V-belt because they are reverse rotation.

The cast iron pump is a lot heavier than the aluminum unit; both because of material and the later pump is a lot slimmer since it doesn't have any mounting bosses. Plan on going to the parts store for some different lentgh bolts.

I weighed my pumps but I can't remember the difference; it was less than 10 though. But its a very cheap upgrade and those pounds are gone forever.

: Hey I heard someone mention that a Crown Victoria aluminum
: water pump was an alternative to a cast iron water pump.
: Is this true? I'm lightening my '75 as much as
: possible & an aluminum water pump will save at least
: 10 pounds. I've got a '73 302 in the car, manual steering
: & brakes. If a Crown Vic aluminum water pump would work,
: I'll definately go that route, & if so, what years & motors?
: Thanks!
