1974 Brought bigger bumpers, front and rear, to the Grabber and Comet GT. To help stop this extra bulk and weight, front disc brakes were finally offered as an option. Previously, Ford had not offered discs because the Maverick had no power brake option, and no other vehicle lines offered manual disc brakes. The Mustang II changed that, and the 1974 Mavericks used Mustang II calipers and master cylinders. Power brakes would still not be offered until 1975.

The Grabber script changed on the fenders, but, strangely enough, Ford did not change the hood script (which still matched the 1973 stripe).

The bigger rear bumper necessitated new quarter extensions. Presumably, Ford decided it would not be worth the trouble and expense to tool up new Grabber quarter extensions as well, so the rear spoiler was dropped from the Grabber package.
