Well Paulie, I've had my 0.060 65 289 for years now. Still runs strong. Love the short stroke. Eats 5.0 Mustangs for lunch. Even took a 351 Mach 1 Mustang years ago. The only thing that you might consider...the early 289's had different water pumps. All aluminum, with an exit on the passenger side. Had my radiator inlet moved to the passenger side, and everything works great. Strong motor.

I have a friend that has the specs on his 65 Mustang. It says that the 65 4bbl was stock with 271 HP. A good cam, and it will run well. Other than that...if I changed motors again with a fresh one, it would be either a 289, or a 351. 302's are like Camaros and ass holes...everybody has one. Not to mention, when people ask what I have, they are surprised to hear that it's a 289, and not a 302. Nothing personal for those who have 302s.

Keep an eye out for slotted push rod holes instead of round ones. Don't need rail rockers or guides.
