i am not sure that one would fit or not but if you did get it to squeeze in there you would have to pull the motor out half way to change the plugs. you could go just as fast with a bored/stroked 351w because it weighs less than a 390. plus you can get better heads, intake and exhaust for a 351. the FE motor is a pretty old design. if you want a big block then stuff a 460 in it. you would have to do the pinto front suspension swap first though.

: Has anyone had any experience with FE-series motors in a Maverick? There was a "Cammer 427" Maverick in SuperFord last year (I think) where the guy had to totally cut out the front, but in the article it said that it was possible to squeeze a 390 or other FE-based engine between the shock towers (but not an OHC 427, cuz they are wider). I had a 390 4V in my 69 XL convertible a couple of years ago, and it would absolutely scream. I can only imagine what it would do in a car that only weights half as much!

: P.S. The car that is pictured is identical to my old XL, minus the goofy hub-caps and GT Stripes. I sure wish I still had her.
