removing power steering unit

i now have a 72 maverick V8. i used to own a 73. both had powersteering. i really would like to remove it, but i have never actually seen a V8 maverick that didnt have power steering.
i would assume it was available, can anyone verify this?
from what i understand, simple removal of power steering is not an easy chore. what parts do i have to remove/and or replace? what all does the job involve?
what kind of cars can i find the donor parts from?
approximately how much should it cost to remove the power steering from my car? it is the goofiest steering unit ive ever driven. i dont know why ford even offered it with power steering. it oversteers badly, and seeing as i intend to put a 275 HP motor in there eventually, i need to get rid of all the excess.
