cowl hood?

hey. I have some leaking cowl vents. I needed to buy a new grabber hood anyways and will probably and up with a fiberglass one... I was wondering if I couldn't get a hood that would cover the cowl vents instead and avoid tearing the car apart. would this work? would it effectively cover the cowl and keep most water out? what does everyone think?
