low-roll shudder

Oh great, something new to worry about. Not always, but frequently, after the engine warms up to about 190, I am experiencing a bad shudder when I start to take off from a stop under light or no throttle. It starts almost as soon as I take my foot off the brake and the car starts rolling at idle. I can't say what it would do under heavy throttle -- probably blow up. It almost feels like the torque converter is trying to lock up. The stock torque converter is not a lock-up converter right? It had done it a few times a while back, and I checked the tranny fluid, but it looked normal (clear & red) and was not low. I'll check again, but I expect it will be the same. I know I need u-joints, but I would think it would be temp-independent if it was. Have any of you experienced anything like this? Ideas? I will probably go ahead and replace the u-joints since I know I need them, and I'll check the fluid again. The car is a 77 with 302, C-4 column-shifter, 2.79 rear, all stock drivetrain.
